what she’s ABOUT?

Malaika
Burke

A girl from Columbus, Ohio. She grew up on the southern side of the city, you know? With the girls who’ve got that swing? She found her stomping ground stomping through the city in knee high white boots with a live band trotting behind, at Columbus South High School. Malaika Burke attended Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center for her studies, but would find her self in The Wiz 2016, playing a edition of “The Eye of The Tornado.” ( South High School) Malaika also participated in the Dance team The Cordelion Performing Arts Academy; Where she would compete almost every weekend to perfect her craft. Dance was always about a sense of community. The young women found her self growing up to teach in inner city non-profit organizations, as a Dance instructor, instructing over one hundred youth over the course of two years. She found her self navigating through non-profit organizations using dance as therapy, using dance to instill confidence into young girls and boys. She would create a dance team called “Dancers of Integrity”and would have 13 young ladies and three young men on the team. Malaika found that through dance she could not only literally move people, but she could mentally, and emotionally move others and help with and aid in the pressures of growing up.She is now studying at The Ohio State University to obtain her Bachelors of Fine Arts at the OSU Dance Department, and still working in the community to help aid in recovery through dance. She is hoping to further her research about The Mind Body Connection, and how it can be used to help manage and aid with mental health disorders. This is what keeps her moving.

In short:

LOVE FOR THE COMMUNITY. LOVE FOR DANCE. LOVE FOR ALL.
